Translation

I see how Scotland has been prepared to welcome immigrants from Poland, Bulgaria and other countries. Many centres are provided with booklets and interpreters in their native language. According to The Times, 11 June 2007, "translations discourage integration, warns Ruth Kelly
The Times has covered Ruth Kelly’s call to local authorities to encourage immigrants to learn English instead of routinely translating documents into foreign languages.
Kelly, who is Communities Secretary, said translation has become used too often and can be a ‘crutch’ which discourages integration. The practice of routine translations means that new immigrants can avoid learning English, she argued. "
